Olive harvest on Pag
For three weeks every autumn, life on the island slows down and speeds up at the same time. The cafés empty earlier in the evening because everyone is up before sunrise to be in the grove.
A family ritual
At Ružmarin we still pick by hand and by net. The trees are old, some over a hundred years, and they remember every harvest.
A good year is one where the rain stops in time and the bora wind blows clean.
Once the olives reach the mill, the result is the bottle of cold-pressed oil we serve at breakfast.
